The Best is in the Basics

This book is a constant source of reference. My copy is so dog-eared I recently purchased a new one. Why Sunset hasn't reprinted it is beyond me. I have yet to find a bad recipe in it. The other night my kids wanted oatmeal cookies. My first thought was my Sunset book. They came out perfect. These recipes are all benchmarks for what the dish should taste like. This book is the basis for cooking. It is the foundation for a great many recipes.

I have just spent over an hour going in circles with Sunset Publishing regarding getting this cookbook back into print. My frustration levels remained low because of the necessity of this mission, and the need to not be robbed at paying $336 for another copy of this book, not to mention the other prices sellers are getting for a used copy of this book. Each customer service rep was floored when I told them what this book was going for through 3rd party sellers here on Amazon, and the prices for this book from other sellers such as Alibris. Bottom line, I finally got a name and phone number of a person in marketing. Please, please, please, scream loud and clear that you want the hard cover edition of this book back in print. I have tried to convince them that I would purchase at least 20 plus copies for all the people I have wanted to share this gem with over the years, in addition to replacing my worn out copy. I will be happy to share the contact information with you if you are interested in the mission of getting this gem of a cookbook back into print. If try to contact them on your own it would be Oxmoor Publishing located in Alabama. Let them know you want the book in the original form, with the original recipes, etc. I have over 200 cookbooks in my library and this is my go to, or starting place for cooking anything. We can't let future generations go without the basic knowledge and techniques when it comes to knowing how to cook, in this day and age of boxed and pre-cooked foods. I had this cookbook even before I was married, I knew how to cook but this cookbook helped make me an exceptional cook; I now have children who are adults and desperately need a copy of their own, not to mention their friends, my friends, relatives, co-workers, wedding gifts, birthday gifts and a hostess gift for someone who is just starting out. I am smarter this time and will also stockpile some copies to last me well into my twilight years. Scream loud and clear, not on here, but to the publisher that you DEMAND this book be brought back into print. It's a win win situation for both us and them, after all they are in the business to make money; and this book would sell!

Great No-fail recipes

I was given this book approx. 25 years ago and haven't experienced any failures. I still refer to it for some basic recipes.
Not being able to find it locally, I ordered it from Amazon for my son who has left home.
It would have to be the best all-rounder cookbook with great recipes for each area of cooking you want to explore.
It has very clear instructions using easily accessible ingredients.

Good Intro into Philosophy of Mind

As I write this, it is listed as $90, and I'm by no means suggesting it's worth that. But it is a nice book. Pitched as an introductory book on the subject, it may be a bit much for those who never took a philosophy course, but it isn't like reading Heidegger either.

Matthews begins with a brief overview of Aristotle's account of mind and body. From there, he moves to Descartes' dualism and classical materialism, which weigh heavily on the remainder of the book. Neither of these is deemed to provide a convincing view of what minds are. Throughout the book, Matthews discusses the 'minds' of animals, other people and computers, and focuses on thinkers such as Searle, Wittgenstein and Merleau-Ponty. This is not primarily a historical overview of philosophers of the mind, and most of the philosophers discussed are from post WW2.

About the Author
Peter and Kate Damian were the founders of Windrose Aromatics, Inc., a supplier of pure essential oils and aromatic body care products. Together they conducted Windrose Workshops, offering training in practical and theoretical applications of essential oils, and they were charter members of the American Society for Phytotherapy and Aromatherapy, International.

Scent and Psyche brought together in a in-depth presentation

I most sincerely recommend this work to anyone interested in learning more about the magic of Aromas! Not only do the co-athors Peter and Kate Damian discuss the various attributes of many scents, they also tread deep into the inner workings of the human olfactory system. The research they have gathered is worthy of any major medical journal in both content and depth. I personally am involved in various research in the field of the effects of aromas on the human condition and found their book insightful and quite original.
The writting style is simple to follow and filled with those wonderful little phrases that we can carry with us to any social function. I myself have been quoting my favorites parts on quite a regular basis!
Sincerely, if you are interested in Aromatherapy, Incense, Perfume, or even just curious as to how scents have such a powerful response in us as human beings, then I whole heartedly suggest you read this text!

this is a fantastic read

I purchased this book because I am currently taking a course in Aromatherapy, and it was one of the books they recommended. I am truly happy that I did it is very informative and very interesting. Once I started reading it I could not put it down until I finished it. I took it to the gym with me and made sure to read it through my workout. It made my time go by so fast. I know that I will read it again, and will purchase more books written by this Author.
I am sure that anyone would benefit from reading it also.

Not Real Helpful to Me

This book seemed too general for my needs as a psychotherapist or perhaps I've read too many aromatherapy books with rigorous research on the effectiveness (or lack of effectiveness) of essential oils for treating specific mental/emotional conditions.
