Four Corners is more than a book!

I currently teach English to foreigners and I came across this book; I must say it is way better than other books I was recommended. This book is precise, fun, and colorful. It's not bland as others. It helps students understand grammar even though they do not understand the language.

Finally, a 21st HCG Protocol~ Great Book!

I have done the Simeon's protocol in the past. I did lose weight but I will admit it was tough to follow the strict guidelines of the Protocol. I was so glad to have found this book! This is strictly a meat/veggie protocol. I started on Feb 24 & Im down 4.2lbs. Here are my Pros/Cons of the book

CONS:
~Some of his food items have been higher in Nutritional Data than Ive been eating. Therefore, I have added my foods to his list & printed it out.
~Carbs are NOT UNLIMITED. Most servings are 1c. unless noted. However, the Veggie calories are not to be included into your daily caloric allowance. You are ONLY allowed 30g of carbs per day, and thats FOR EVERYONE.
~No milk
~No fruits

PROS:
~You can eat BREAKFAST!!
~Alot more variety of meats & vegetables
~Mixing veggies is allowed
~An idealistis Calorie Limit depending on each individuals weight, height, age (not like the 500 as on Simeon's)
~You can drink diet, zero calorie, carb free beverages instead of just being stuck with tea,water,coffee
~I have not been hungry at all & have been satisfied with the amts of food is allowed. I sometimes choose to eat 5 small meals instead of 3.
~lotions,makeups, deodorants, etc. are not an issue
~you can chew gum!! ;)
~very easy to follow with good explanation. LOVE THIS BOOK!!

HCG 2.0 Rocks!!!

I've done this diet twice before and it's never been easier. I wanted to use the prescription HCG injections that I used in my previous rounds, but Dr. Z talked me into trying his drops. He said if I wasn't happy with my results he'd credit the $109 I spent on the drops to the injections that cost 3 times as much. It's a good thing crow isn't part of the diet, because I'd be eating it. I released 13.4 lbs, 9.5 total inches and my body fat is down 3.1 percent in just two weeks. I have not been hungry, my weight has not stalled or have not had one headache which I did experience with the original protocol. This new hcg plan rocks!

THE BEST "modern" HCG diet guidebook EVER on the market

I found this book through a link in the comment that was repeatedly posted against several HCG diet cookbooks on Amazon. The post says that this book is the easiest HCG diet book and that you don't even have to cook and worry about meal plan with this book.
-I was looking for a HCG cookbook because I was having a trouble maintaining my weight during my Phase 3 Maintenance weeks. So I bought HCG 2.0.

As I read it, I found this book to be NOT a cookbook but *** the BEST modern-HCG diet guidebook ever on the market (books/online)***. It contains lots of information about the theories behind, rules of, and tools for HCG diet, which is SO important to succeed in a most effective, healthy, and fastest way.

*** Please read my story below ***

Last month, I did my very first HCG diet with "semi-traditional" protocol with some commercial HCG diet drop (not InsideOut Wellness by Dr. Zach LaBoude, the author). Before the diet, I was a lean regular exerciser and needed to shed only 8 lbs that had never responded to dieting and exercise. The HCG company i chose told me it would take less than 2 weeks to lose that small weight of fat. BUT the reality is, it took 3+ weeks, and I experienced lots of stalls. I lost from my face and felt always hungry and exhausted. I was miserable and quit immediately after I reached my goal of 10-lb loss (23rd day).

During the Maintenance Phase 3 (3 weeks), my weight went up & down despite teeth-clenching efforts with strict diet. I had to do many "steak days," "5-apple days" (an alternative to steak day for vegetarians and fruit lovers). By the end of 3-week maintenance, I had already 3 lbs up from my 10-lb weight loss - 30% gain.

Then I found this HCG 2.0 book on Amazon and purchased it - I meant to learn cooking, but ended up studying REAL important facts, keys to success, valuable information and more. I read through it (I am a scientist, too) with highlighters and was SO shocked. I had done so many mistakes - by faithfully following the HCG diet company's protocol. The typical HCG diet plans online have TOO MANY NO-NO-NOs. Even Dr. Simeon's original protocol would no longer work for modern life style and diet.

After reading HCG 2.0, I decided to redo the diet because I had already gained 3 out of 10 lb I had lost from the Phase 2 and seemed to be continuously gaining. So I redid the whole process -including the binge day (Day 1 & 2). After the 2 days of fat loading, I gained freaking 7lbs!!!!!! My body had lost wrong fats and been starving - so the loading gave my body a perfect opportunity to regain all it had lost. I almost cried.

But I followed this HCG 2.0 protocol from the day 3 of Phase 2, and amazingly, lost 5 lbs in just 3 days!!!! I have lost total 9 lbs in only 6 days. No stall at all - and no steak day needed. I was never hungry and did not lose muscles or from face.

Currently I am on Phase 3: following HCG 2.0 protocol, I have gained ZERO gram!!!! SUPURB.

What I learn is that, this HCG 2.0 diet is ideal especially for those who are leaner, exercise regularly, and have less fat (are not obese) but DO have some extra fat to lose - which cannot be lost by increasing more exercise. Dr. Simeon's traditional and many other protocols may work better for those who have abundant fat to lose (say, +50 lbs) but not for the athletic/active people like myself - the weight loss is VERY SLOW and difficult. The same thing for those who are on the +2 rounds: lesser the fat to lose (w/ lower BMR), slower to lose.

- Dr. LaBoube has a secret to tell you: the single most important KEY to success. Really. I even enjoyed diet soda (as HCG 2.0 allowed in moderation) and it helped reduce my stress level. I did not subtract calories from veggie, but cut one essential thing. This made a HUGE difference.

A great book for presenting trz. mets and orgn. metallics...

Very well written, though some more practice problems would be useful (not to mention a solutions manual...) THe book presents 18 electorn complexes and the like very well and gives many journals as back up references... Gives a great summary of organometallic reactions (CO insertion, Associative, Dissociative, etc) and a really solid and historically grounded intro to the field of catalysis... Clearly written, for the most part, but one section on the Trans effect is a bit ambigous, in the sense that they never really talk about HOW to use it... Sure they mention the idea, but they never address the leaving group... People always confused on that section... So that is my gripe in this otherwise excellent book...

decent, not the best

This book is decently written. the first several chapters provide a background introduction into molecular orbital theory with subsequent chapters introducing various ligands and their behaviors in complexes, then reactions and catalytic cycles. unlike other chemistry books i own this one sources the original journal articles of some principal reactions used as examples- which can be helpful for those interested in looking up the original data. one complaint i have is that the book does not provide many examples of types of reactions, nor does it explain the exceptions to rules and why.

Excellent book!

I am a PhD candidate at University of S�o Paulo and my research is related to IT Projects in the Public Sector. This book is very instructive and it was very useful for the literature review of my thesis.

This book is also very applicable to my own work as a Project Manager in the public sector. I am a certified PMP� since 2005 and I recently move to the public sector.

The author is very competent in highlighting the main differences between the public and private sectors. The book explains very logically why it is more difficult to manage a project in the conflicting environment usually found in Government projects.

I am a masters student in Information Studies and bought this book to help appreciate the specific problems faced by public library systems in running successful projects. I am thankful to David for writing an outstanding handbook and text. Very rarely do you come across a definitive or iconic text - I can think of Gujerati on basic econometrics or Orwell on writing plain English - but this one deserves the attention of all academic course designers. It is a comprehensive treatment of the key issues, and applies well to the public sector experience in all English speaking countries and not just in the US. Once more, thank you to David.

Germic analyzes the intentionally disguised relationship between the constructed "nature" of Central Park, Yosemite, and Yellowstone and the expanding but crisis-prone capitalist state.

American Green demonstrates how the fundamental function of these parks was economic and political―in the service of maintaining a consensus regarding national identity. The organization and control of "natural" space, Germic argues, is inseparable from its function as a capitalist instrument. This instrumentalism served not only to define, constitute, and segregate social groups, but also to promote racial and ethnic identifications above those based on class interest. Providing a fresh insight into United States labor, cultural and environmental history, this book is an important contribution to our understanding of American parks and the complex meaning of American public space.

ten philosophical mistakes review

One of the most celebrated neo-classical philosophers of this decade is Mortimer J. Adler. Adler was born in 1902 in New York City and led a fulfilling life enlightening others even after his recent death in 2001. Adler began his career as a scholar with an education at Columbia University continuing there to teach psychology and then taught at the philosophy of law at Chicago University. He was the Director of the institute for Philosophical Research and most also the Chairman of the Board of Editors for the Encyclopedia Britannica.
The prologue to Adler's "Ten Philosophical Mistakes" begins with the following quote by Aristotle and best summarizes his thesis, "The least initial deviation from the truth is multiplied later a thousandfold." The implications of the this chosen quote is proved correct in this book; Adler dissects the blunders of post-16th century philosophers, namely those philosophers who followed Descartes and himself, and shows how the consequences have impacted contemporary society with confusion. Adler separates the errors of modern philosophy into ten of the following chapters: Consciousness and its objects, the intellect and the senses, words and meanings, knowledge and opinion, moral values, happiness and contentment, freedom and choice, human nature, human society and lastly- human existence.
The classical philosophers from the ivory towers had ideas that were so enlightening and their thoughts so deep that it could pierce the darkest questions of the universe; until the modern philosophers came along and totally demolished those towers that had taken centuries to build. It is true that society found that modern philosophy appealing because it was completely logical and coherent, more down to earth and applicable to their lives, but somehow it didn't seem to provide the enlightening affect that philosophy once possessed. That is until Mortimer J. Adler came along to rebuild the ivory towers; in this sense the book is successful because it steers you back towards the light. Even if one did not agree with him, you have to give Adler credit for his courage of challenging the darkest philosophers, and even more credit for widening your intellectual horizon with his "common-sensible" yet thorough ideas.
A prerequisite to prepare for reading this book is definitely to study the modern philosophers: Lock, Hume, Rousseau, Hobbes and Marx. These are the targeted axe-murderers of wisdom that have tarnished contemporary society's way of thinking according to Adler. Besides, once the theories of the modern philosophers are examined, one is always begging for an answer out of the deeper whole of black matter that they inflicted, Adler patches it up.
One of the reasons why "Ten Philosophical Mistakes" is so popular is because it is accessible to any literate person with a curiosity for philosophy. "Adler has the knack of steering readers through deep intellectual waters and making it easy to stay afloat," as the Pittsburgh Press puts it. Adler's use of language is exempt of much of the complex philosophical jargon that causes splitting migraines of confusion to the average person. That being said, there is another aspect that may cause many readers too loose interest in his arguments. In order to allow the general public to understand his book Adler is forced to spend excessive amounts of effort in defining numerous terms. Then again, when you look at it from another perspective, there would be no way to avoid this since most of the philosophical errors he lays out were caused by misinterpretations in the first place.
An example of Adler's extensive classifications of terms can be found in the very first chapter: Consciousness and Its Objects. To the average North American who spends more or less 10 hours a week watching television, understanding Consciousness would be an overwhelming task. But have no fear, Adler takes his time outlining as simplistic, thorough and exact as possible what consciousness and the concepts surrounding it mean from his perspective. As he does in most chapters, he then asks a set of profound questions regarding the concept at hand. In this chapter Locke's Essay Concerning Human Understanding is challenged. Once Adler has provided the reader with a stable understanding of the concepts and makes us aware of the errors of the modern philosopher, he is then capable of providing the solution. Chapter one concludes as follows, "The correction of that mistake produces the opposite result- a coherent view of consciousness and its objects that involves no inexplicable beliefs and that accords with common sense and common experience" (29).

I would above all recommend this book to three types of people. I suggest this to cynical people because modern philosophers did such a good number of plunging consciousness into a deeper and darker spiral, to people who couldn't get a grasp of philosophy because this book is based on common sense and is relatively easier than most philosophical books to read and especially to people who think they know all about philosophy because Adler will demonstrate otherwise.

Intro to Some Philosophical Issues

One can't help enjoy reading Adler. He writes with the layperson in mind, as if philosophy mattered to the laity, and it does!

Adler is not a "professional" philosopher, but that doesn't make his contribution any less worthy. Indeed, because of its accessibility and wide terrain, this is an engaging dialectic for most of the prominent philosophers from Plato to Nietzsche, One ought to keep in mind, however, that Adler at his death was a Thomist, and was an Aristotlean when he wrote this short volume. Expect, therefore, the criticisms of the philosophers chosen, e.g., Descartes, Locke, Hume, et alia, are skewered because they don't toe the Aristotlean party line. Despite his bias, Adler is fair in his criticisms.

Lamentably for Adler and his students, modern philosophy has made significant leaps since this book was written. Take the positive assertion that Locke's tabula rasa is right. Well, modern evolutionary biology, psychology, and congnitive science have disproved the tabula rasa theory. So, Aristotle, Aquinas, and Locke's "blank slate" notion no longer is true; defending it against the wealth of scientific experience opposing it isn't even a feature of this book.

So, who's this book for? Any beginning student of philosophy can benefit from Adler's reformation of some arcane, philosophical arguments in the language of the layman -- e.g., ordinary language. If one wants to know the fundamental flaws of the Empricists, for example, Adler adumbrates them. But before taking Adler's criticisms too seriously, be sure to compare them to current scientific thinking.
