Grace: A Play, by Craig Wright

The difference between belief and knowledge and the consequences of mistaking one for the other are at the heart of Craig Wright’s play Grace. An evangelical Christian couple, Sara and Steve, leave a dreary life in Minnesota for sunny Florida and the hope of fast money from turning abandoned hotels into a chain of gospel-themed inns. Their new neighbor, Sam, is struggling to emerge from the trauma of a car accident that killed his fiance and left him badly maimed. And the building’s pest exterminator, Karl, is still tormented by a dark childhood episode. As their stories converge, Wright’s characters find themselves face-to-face with the most eternally vexing questions—the nature of faith, the meaning of suffering, and the possibility of redemption. Acidly funny and relentlessly searching, Grace is a trenchant work from an immensely gifted playwright.

Good actor piece for all characters.
By Gala Joy
If you're looking for a play to work on, this is a great for a few reasons. First of all, all three of the main characters ( 2M, 1F) have great material. Second, it's new enough that you haven't seen it done a million times. Third, it raises all kinds of moral questions, but it doesn't seem to be pushing an agenda.

I'm also a big fan of stories that address serious or dark material without losing lightness. This is FUNNY, even when it's going heavy.

Also, even though the characters are written as 30's, I think it would work for 22-early 40's.

Good stuff.

A Good Play... But Depressing
By Gregory Wildwood
I read this cover-to-cover on a plane ride back home. I'm currently looking for future shows to direct for a little theatre that I am working with. I wouldn't rule this one out. It is very funny in places. However, the subject matter is a bit "blue". I thought the playwright did a good job with the characters, but not a very good job with the clarity of what is really being said. It's one of those plays you really need to read at least twice. If you are an atheist or agnostic thespian, this play may appeal to you.

Timely yet universal
By Billie Konze
What a beautifully-written and timely play. Craig Wright writes about things our country is presently struggling with - religion, faith, scams, science, gun violence, environmental factors - and yet the play also feels universal. I plan to read more of his work after this.
