An estimating book for all industry

I have used this book since 1986. It has been the cornerstone of my pipe estimating. It is easy to use and in most cases you can narrow a seemingly complicated estimating job down to a few tables. I recommend this book to any estimator charged with providing accurate budgets in industrial construction.

The book addresses carbon steel, stainless steel Heavy wall, large O.D. Staging, Insulation, Pipe Hangers and more.

The Author goes into detail in a clear and concise method about how to structure your estimate and provides a sample estimating sheet.

Even though the estimating sheet is about 30 yrs old. I have set one up in excel to match his format and it works beautifully.

A must book for any pipe estimator.

Estimators Piping Man-hour Manual

This book is still the benchmark manual for accurate man-hour takeoffs in the piping industry and the only improvement will be when it is published in a metric measurement version as well as this Imperial measurement standard. This manual is used in places other than the USA and the rest of the world is Metric.

Barbara Creed is an associate professor of cinema studies in the school of fine arts at the University of Melbourne. An intriguing look at horror film

Those who dislike psychoanalytic interpretations beware! This book is full of them (even one about Little Red Riding Hood!) I don't necessarily agree with them, but I do find them exceptionally fascinating. The readings of Psycho and Carrie are particularly enlightening, as well as that of Jaws (very heavy on the Freudian castration anxiety angle... but now when I watch the film I can't abide by any other interpretation).

The arguments are underpinned with sound feminist theory and semiotics..very interesting to see a different perspective on well known films; it encourages more in depth critical readings of popular texts, and certainly stimulates discussion. About the Author
Rabbi David Fohrman lectures internationally on Biblical themes. He heads the Curriculum Initiative of the Areivim Philanthropic Group, and directs the Hoffberger Institute for Text Study. He currently resides in Woodmere, NY with his wife and children, where he also serves as resident scholar at the Young Israel of Woodmere. Rabbi Fohrman's first book, The Beast that Crouches at the Door, was a finalist for the 2007 National Jewish Book Award. In earlier years, Rabbi Fohrman served as a senior editor and writer for ArtScroll's Schottenstein Edition of the Talmud, and taught Biblical themes at the Johns Hopkins University. His recorded lectures are available at Alephbeta.org.

This is Torah learning as it should be.

I cant praise the Rabbis intuitivness enough in peeling away the layers of context and subcontext in the book of Genesis. You think that having studied Rashi(considered to be the pre-eminent authority when it comes to Torah interpetation), and others such as Rambam, Malbim, Ramban and Ibn Ezra, and many modern Jewish theology including those with radical notions on what is happening in the text, that you have studied it all.
Well guess what? Close to forty years im studying and this Rabbi comes along and make mockery of all I thought I knew. I thought I asked all the possible questions on oxymorons, improbabilities, contradictions and sometimes plain incrdulousness at how the narratives unfold. Well I guess I wasnt all that smart having missed so many of the finer details of whats happening in the text expounded on by the Rabbi, but gosh he makes it look so, "why didnt I think of it" simple that I just have to kick myself. I look foreward to many more years of kicking myself if only the Rabbi will oblige us by putting more of his teachings put into print.

Finally.....the Truth

I want to point out one thing: This book is NOT only for jewish people. It is for anyone of any religion (or no religion) who is interested in the Bible or the Adam & Eve story. It is definitely also for people who made fun of the story and think it's just for kids - this book shows that by asking the most difficult questions in the Adam & Eve story, one actually comes to a true understanding of what the Bible is trying to tell us. ALL questions can and must be asked!!

Otherwise, I fully agree with the comments in the other reviews. This book is a very readable, yet deep and true-to-the-text analysis of the Adam&Eve/Cain&Abel stories. It's not some homiletic interpretation of the Bible but a very precise, critical, compelling analysis of what the Bible is really trying to tell us. ...and (while the author doesn't address this directly) this helps better understand mankind, the human condition, and...ourselves.

Rabbi Fohrman has been teaching a refreshing and insightful analysis of the Hebrew Bible now for years but his first published book brings it all together in a wonderfully cohesive and readable manner. He has an excellent point to make: the Hebrew Bible from the very beginning has much to teach us about ourselves today but only if you examine it carefully for all its messages. Rabbi Fohrman is a master teacher and his writing is always engaging--you have to keep turning the pages. I can't recommend this book highly enough for anyone interested in what God has to say to each and every one of us. Thank you, Rabbi Fohrman.

There are some great multiplication practice pages in this book. I am very happy with my purchase and would buy this again. This is not a way to teach kids their multiplication facts but a fun way to reinforce them.

Fun with Math!

This is a very fun workbook! My son loves learning and practicing his multiplication facts thanks to this little workbook. I'm very happy with my purchase. There are many different activities in the book to complete, and he like all of the them so far. I do plan on making copies of the pages, so he can do them over and over.
My son is 8 and in 2nd grade, but he's at the point where he's ready to start learning multiplication. This book is a good tool to have. I let him explore it on his own for a little while before I jumped in to show him how it all worked. Before I could join him, I could hear and see it clicking in his head. It really has helped him understand how and why multiplication works instead of just sitting there memorizing facts (which I still plan to have him do).
I definitely recommend buying this nice workbook!

Ecosystems and species diversity have declined to isolated and shrinking remnants subject to further degradation due to global warming resulting from human intervention in global climate cycles. The Decline of Nature is an environmental history of ideas embedded in a compact account of Western civilization s ecological impact upon the planet, particularly in Europe and its colonies. The major thesis presented is the idea that two speculative philosophies of history (attempts to understand the meaning of history) and their associated worldviews have been largely responsible for destructive attitudes and behaviors towards nature. They include the idea of providence (i.e. the Christian worldview) and the idea of progress (the science and technology-based vision of unrestrained economic development and material accumulation since the 17th century). Some scholars understand the idea of progress as a secularization of the Christian millennium, the creation of a new Eden through science and technology. A third, alternative philosophy of history, the idea of history as multiple cycles of civilizations rising, flourishing, and declining, was popular in both classical Greco-Roman and ancient Asian civilizations, but was rejected by Western civilization until its revival during the Renaissance and in 19th and 20th century. Oswald Spengler s Decline of the West was the founding work of cyclical philosophy of history in the 20th century. Spengler, Arnold Toynbee, and other 20th century speculative philosophers of history have been criticized by postmodern philosophers for creating logically indefensible grand narratives . However, Spengler s mysterious cycles of civilization have found at least a partial scientific explanation in the new discipline of environmental history. Environmental degradation played a major role in the decline of ancient Mesopotamian, Greco-Roman, Mayan and Asian civilization.
